K-State Arabic Course to be Offered at Fort Riley

Kansas State University is offering Arabic I at Fort Riley for the fall 2008 semester.

Enrollment is now being accepted for the course, which will be 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Aug. 12 to Oct. 2.

The four credit-hour course offers an introduction to the structure of modern Arabic tailored toward Iraqi dialect. Thuria Mossa, a native of Baghdad, will teach the essentials of grammar, speaking, reading and writing. Mossa came to the United States from Iraq in 1982. She has taught Arabic at K-State since 2001. At Fort Riley, she works with different language and cultural programs.

Saad Ahmad also will instruct the course. He has worked for the United States Embassy in Baghdad translating documents to and from English, has taught Arabic at Washburn University and has been a dialect instructor at Fort Riley since fall 2007.
